How to Remove Excess Skin after Bariatric Surgery?

In our present world, obesity has affected every developed country. It is increasing the risk of severe health problems like Type II Diabetes and cardiac diseases in thousands of people. While some people find dieting and exercising as an effective remedy to lose weight, other people opt for bariatric surgery. Irrespective of the path, an important factor that people often ignore is the presence of excess skin after losing weight.

If you have tried to lose weight through a fat reduction surgery in India or by practicing other remedies, you probably know what loose skin is. You may have looked for effective measures to reduce the extra skin. However, it is imperative to know whether the area, which you are assuming to be skin, is fat or skin. You can check this by pinching the concerned area. If you hold more than a few millimeters of skin, it’s fat. In this case, you will have to reduce the fat entirely to revert to its former tautness.

Once you have eliminated fats from your body, you have two options to get rid of excess skin. The first and healthier option is to opt for exercising and muscle building. When you lose weight, your muscle and fat shrinks; causing a difference in between your skin and muscle. Therefore, by choosing to build muscles, you will create a visibly tighter skin. Moreover, replacing fat with muscles will improve your appearance and boost your self-confidence.

Apart from this, you can lose excess skin after bariatric surgery by undergoing a liposuction surgery. This surgery is an excess skin-removal procedure wherein fats are removed from specific areas of your body. The liposuction surgery is suitable for areas like abdomen, hips, thighs, chest, back, buttocks, arms, neck and calves. The procedure involved in liposuction reduces fat cells in a specific area of your body. However, if you want to remove stretch marks after fat reduction surgery in India, this procedure would be ineffective.

Removing excess skin or building muscles to tighten existing skin enhances your physical appearance. More importantly, it removes the last scar that keeps reminding you of obesity.

Exercise or Diet – What’s Important after Weight Loss Surgery

You often hear that dieting and exercising are the two factors that reduce fats after weight loss surgery. The two factors go hand-in-hand, but most of the obese patients lay more emphasis on any one of them. Hence, they often wonder whether exercising or dieting is more fruitful in the long run.

In recent years, bariatric surgery consultants often state that the fastest way to lose weight after weight loss surgery is by cutting calories. Some doctors and experts take the initiative and announce that a healthy lifestyle is not attained entirely by your diet preferences; but your physical activities. Millions of obese take notice of this statement and believe that exercising is enough. As the result, they put an end to calorie counting and pig out.

Why workout is not enough?

While many people run after exercising only, health experts preach that diet is also an equally important factor in losing weight after weight loss surgery. When you choose to eat without counting calories and assume that working out will be enough, you often overlook that calorie-consumption-control is easier than burning calories in a gym.

ILS CB 4

Relying only on exercising is a risky choice, because you would end up gaining weight if you skip a day or burn lesser calories than consumed. Moreover, if you consume high level of calories, you would have to spend hours working out in the gym. Hence, exercising only is not an effective option.

So how about dieting only?

Well, if you are thinking that dieting would help you lose weight, you might be partially correct. But if you fail to consume proper meals on time, it would gradually make you weak. Hence, after some days or weeks, you will start consuming some foods that are not recommended by bariatric surgery consultants in your diet plan. Hence, this too isn’t a complete solution.

What should I do?

Just like life, weight loss is merely about the balance between several imperative things. In simpler words, you have to maintain a proper balance between exercising and dieting to achieve better quality of life in the long run. To sum it up, you should count on your calories while consuming a proper meal and burn excess fats by exercising routinely.

Some surgeries, such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and vertical banded gastroplasty are recommended by many weight loss consultants for its effectiveness. Recently, doctors have conducted a research to find whether bariatric surgery changes the gut bacteria in a patient’s body.

In this research, bariatric doctors in Sweden monitored the gut bacteria of several women for a decade. The research involved monitoring two types of women; women who have undergone an efficient bariatric surgery, and obese women who haven’t undergone the same. Moreover, the first category of women consisted of two groups – one, who went for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and, second, who went for vertical banded gastroplasty. As both the surgeries are an imperative part of bariatric care in India, this research has great significance in Indian medical industry.

When further analysis was conducted, it was found that the women who underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass had better composition of gut bacteria than obese women that opted for vertical banded gastroplasty.

Experiment

To find the effectiveness of gut bacteria, bariatric surgery researchers transferred the bacteria of different groups of women to especially raised mice that didn’t had their own gut bacteria. Hence, the gut bacteria of women that didn’t undergo and the ones that underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and vertical banded gastroplasty were transferred into different mice.

Result

Observation stated that the mice whose body were given the gut bacteria of women who have experienced the Roux-en-Y surgery and the vertical banded gastroplasty had 43% and 26% lesser body fat respectively than the mice whose body got the gut bacteria of women who haven’t undergone surgery.
